I've been a fan of Kristy McNichol way back in the early 80's but then lost touch and am now starting to become a fan again and wanting to collect old magazines and all her movies. I'm constantly watching "Empty Nest" everyday on WGN since I missed the beginning in 1988. When I first saw Kristy it was in old magazines and I wanted to be just like her - she was my idol! Now that I'm almost 30 years old it's kinda weird that I'm interested in her again. I was interested in finding out how Kristy has been lately, and specifically if she has had any problems with Bi-Polar disorder lately. I too have been diagnosed as manic-depressive (since 1982), and know how frustrating it can be. (as Jimi Hendrix said some 30 years ago.) I'm kind of new to the Internet, so I hope this gets through O.K. I'll try to be succinct... For the last two years, I have been collecting Disability income due to the bi-polar illness. I've been safe, sluggish and low on motivation. Although my income has been rather low ($700/mo.), I have managed to save more money that at many times in my life. It's kind of like paying farmers to not grow crops; I receive money from Social Security to do basically nothing; why go out and get a job that wouldn't pay much more and take a chance of losing my benefits? Anyway, I had a great Christmas, finally had a job interview for a Quality Control-type job, had a few other things go really well, and was starting to feel motivated for the first time in months! We got snowed in for a few days here in N.E. Indiana, so I also had cabin fever from New Year's Eve until last Monday. Mon. night I went out to watch football at a sport's bar, had several beers, and stayed up nearly all night. Went out and did nearly the same thing the next night. I had this great, productive energy! Cleaned the apartment, wrote letters to friends, etc., but began to get worried; I'd been down this road before too many times. (I've had several hospitalizations since 1982, but none since 1996). I wanted to nip this in the bud; I know one can not maintain a hypo-manic buzz for too long before the inevitable crash. I knew there were a few things to do to prevent full-blown mania. First absolutely no alcohol for quite a while. (I've vowed not to drink until March 1.) Second, cut down on caffeine and nicotine. And I am typing this from my parent's home on a lake in NE IN, which has always been a great place to relax. So I feel pretty good tonight, after not sleeping too much for the last four days. I'm not sure if this is the typical guest book entry, or if Kristy will ever look at it, but I've felt for a long time that she and I were kind of kindred spirit. My background is in engineering and not acting, so I really don't know shit from shinola about life in Hollywood. But I do know how awful manic-depression can be, and I was kind of curious if what I've been through the last couple of weeks rings a bell with Kristy. I grew up with Kristy being my idol. I had posters of her and her brother, Jimmy, on my bedroom wall and listened to their album all of the time. I wanted to be just like her until I heard that she was lesbian. I still enjoy seeing her in movies and especially liked her movie "Just the Way You Are". That is my favorite.

I remember watching Kristy for years, from commercials and guest spots to Family. I don't think I missed a Battle of the Network Stars that she participated in, either. I was so much younger then, so I had a lot of time for TV. I remember watching reruns of her TV shows on cable, too.

I also remember sending her flowers on her birthday more than once. Although I don't know if she received them, I did get a confirmation notice from FTD!

For some reason, her name popped into my head as I was searching the net for some DVD's. I've been anxiously awaiting Two Moon Junction and Little Darlings on DVD. I know they'd probably sell, as well.

As someone mentioned in a previous post, she has to make a guest spot on a highly rated TV show. Would the smaller networks like WB or UPN take a chance on a series with her? Maybe she'll show up in the next Quentin Taratino movie. He resurrected the career of Travolta, I suppose he can do it for Kristy as well.

After perusing the pages, I suppose she is still unmarried. I wanted to go out with her in the 70s and would drop EVERYTHING to go out with her in the 90s. I suppose Kristy was my first "Hollywood" love. My mother wanted me to marry a woman who had the same values as Buddy did on Family.

Hooray for Kristy...as she has been my inspiration for years, I have her picture with that most perfectly beautiful smile in my oral surgery office and on my computer screen. My staff knows that between she and Seinfeld, there's no contest for the most perfect dentition--what a smile Kristy. Go girl!

And as an old recording star (see The Holidays on Yahoo.. http://www.holidayproductions.com ..I have recently obtained her original album through some friends of mine in the "oldies" record business...I was 16 when I was recording our records at Capitol Records in NYC and I can appreciate what effort she and her brother put forth in their album. Great job...Moreover, I've had several patients over the years that were in the entertainment business and related -after seeing her picture in my office- that they had the good fortune of meeting her, albeit casually at parties etc., and they express their remembering how untypically friendly and warm she was when talking to them.

How about some more music Kristy?? Keep brushin' and a smilin'..You've been my Personal Inspiration for years, through all my own ups and downs..Good luck with your projects...
