It'll be a while...(contractual agreements) before "Family"
airs on cable. "Family" did air on two a cable channels in the
past. One was the Nostagia Channel (no longer on the air) and the other
was CBN (which is now Fox Family). These were back in the late 80's/early
90's. Check the Screen Gems website or ask your cable channel to add Screen
Gems to your cable listing.
Now to change the subject, as we approach the new century as well as
the new year, please join me and thanking two great people for giving theirselves
three wonderful children (beginning with James & Tommy), but most of
all, for giving to all of us, Kristy.

As a fifteen year old adolescent, I am not as familiar with Kristy McNichol's
work as I'd like to be. Someday, I hope to build a webpage like this. You
really have a lot to be proud of. You're educating people about a wonderful
performer. After I viewed the E! True Hollywood Story, I found myself,
once again, curious about this enigmatic star. I have recently sought out
some of her pictures on VHS. I think it is a testament to Kristy's popularity
that most of her videos are still in print, and at affordable prices. THE
PIRATE MOVIE seems to be quite popular. It sells at Amazon Auctions for
around $40 US dollars today. Even though it was repackaged and released
1997, it is now on moratorium. This, too, confirms the genuine interest
her fans share in the films of her career. I've ordered DREAM LOVER, which
seems to have a most intriguing premise. I can't wait to watch it.
I think Kristy is quite the role model, as well. A family member of
mine suffered from manic depressive illness, and Kristy has demonstrated
such a positive example of someone who suffers from this disease and, yet,
acts responsibly and creates beautiful work for her fans. She deserves
the success she has enjoyed. I really like the term "genuine"
for her. As it's been said, she's the real deal!

Right now, the Universal movie, "THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS" starring
Michael J. Fox and Helen Slater is on TNT (Turner Network Television).
The movie was directed by Herbert Ross.
Kristy McNichol (you know....) was asked to play the role that was given
to Helen Slater. But the "powers that be" at MCA/Universal said
"no". She (Kristy) was box office poison, and the role was given
to Slater.
Rumor had it that the character's name was Susan, but then Ross changed
it to Christy (Christy Wills) when MCA/Universal executives refused to
give the part to Kristy McNichol.
Well, in the end, Kristy had the last laugh twice. The movie bombed
and the executives at MCA/Universal no longer "existing" anymore.
MCA also does not exist on a higher level anymore. Just in the music division,
only.
Of course, this would've been Fox and McNichol's second time at working
together. The first was on an episode of "FAMILY" where Fox's
character had a crush on Kate (played by Sada Thompson). Also Richard Jordan
(who was in "The Secret of Success") and his future wife Blair
Brown made guest appearances on other "Family" episodes.

No, I'm sorry, I don't have the episodes. They are owned by Eyemark Entertainment
(CBS Corp.) in association with Mike Douglas Entertainment Inc.
I have a poem that Kristy recited on one the 1977 guest appearances.
It was written by Joe Raposo who wrote all of the songs for Sesame Street.

to publish it on the website but wait till you read it. Not what you think
back in 1977.
Joe was also a guest along with Kristy, the winner of a National Spelling
Bee Contest, Andrea McArdle (when she starred on Broadway in "Annie"),
Stephanie Mills (when she was doing "The Wiz") and a girl who
had her first novel published at the age of 12---her name was Alexandria
Sheedy. Today she goes by the name of Ally Sheedy (actress).

Former Talk Show Host MIKE DOUGLAS came out with his autobio book, and
there was no mention of Kristy in the book.
Kristy guest host the Mike Douglas Show twice and appeared as a guest
four times.
Also Neil Simon came out with part two of his autobio book and Kristy
received a small mentioned on pg 164 as one of the stars of ONLY WHEN I
LAUGH.

Well Jim, I must say that when it comes to true love, there are not any
second choices to make opinions in comparison about. --(Not that Jennifer
Love Hewitt does; or will have her own devoted and loyal fans who find
her as wonderful an actress, and as beautiful a person, as those fans who
love and adore Kristy McNichol.) ...No one else could ever compare to Kristy.

I remember wanting to be like Kristy as a teeenager I would try to copy
her style(hair, clothes, etc.)and I was a fan of her in the 70's, I thought
that she was really cool! I would watch the ABC after school specials that
she appeared in and "Family" on ABC, as well as when she starred
in "Empty Nest"(1988-1992). When I saw her on E!'s "True
Hollywood Stories" it just bought back some memories for me, but I
never knew all of the troubles that Kristy's been through during her career.
But I really enjoy this site, thanks for the memories guys!

I was just on a plane with Kristy yesterday (10/7/99) from LAX toAtlanta....when
she was getting on, I kept looking at her, because !couldn't quite place
her face...then it hit me...BUDDY!!!!! I was besidemyself...I had such
a crush on her in Family.
I was in an aisle seat and she was on the other side, window seat, onerow
ahead. After we were in the air, I got up to use the lavatory, andwhen
I was going back to my seat, she was walking toward me....."What doI
say? Do I shut up?" All that came out was "Are you Kristy McNichol?"
All she said was "Yup." I wanted to respect her privacy so I
didn't sayanything else.
When we were getting off the plane, I got up the nerve to tell her,
"Ihad such a crush on you, I named my cat after you." I don't
know if sheactually heard me, but she smiled and said "Thank you."
She looks healthy and happy.

I just wanted to say it is great that there is a Kristy McNichol web
page. I have the pleasure of looking at her picture and it being like a
mirror. Ever since I was little and she came out on Family people have
told me I looked like her. In fact when I was older and worked at a music
store in texas, someone came up to me and said do you know who you look
like. I replied with a yes Then when empty nest came on I would even watch
what she was wearing because if it looked good on her you get the picture(fashion
tips). I was really upset about hearing that she was having some troubles

Saw the special on Etv about you and I thought it was very tasteful.

Gee, I wrote her a lot of letters never meanning to send. I discovered
I'm allergic to big cities. Oh well, I hope she is happy now. I am finally,
now that I moved to the Mountains of North Carolina. I worked in televison
for a few years, and I really loved her and her talent. Beech Mountain
NC is a great place. A lot of psycological problems can be caused by the
people one is surrounded by, this is especially true for sensitive individuals.
I just hope she has discovered this.

I was happy to find this site. I saw Kristy many years ago in Hawaii
while she was on vacation. My very first record album was the one she and
Jimmy recorded back in 78 or 79. My aunt was a very big fan of theirs.
I am surprised that she is not active in films or tv since she is extremely
talented. I could remember the days when they would say people would say
that Brooke Shields had the beauty but that Kristy McNichol had the true
